Setup Wireless Network - It's Easy!
These days when some new electronic wizardry comes onto the market, everyone wants to get hold of it. As you are probably aware, wireless networks for home use have been on the market for quite a while now, and there is the situation now where a lot of people have one or intend to get one. A setup wireless network in your home is very practical and makes life much easier and more convenient. It is not like many gadgets that people purchase for show or amusement just to keep up with the Jone's next door.
At first people sometimes throw up their arms in panic at the very thought of having to setup wireless network themselves at home. But really there is no need for panic! It is just not difficult at all, and there are many of sources of help available, should you encounter any difficulty.
The most likely reason for looking into setting up a wireless network is because if you use a laptop computer, you probably prefer to access the internet remotely, without having to connect to your modem. So the first thing you need to do is to buy the necessary hardware required for the wireless network installation.
The first step is to get a broadband internet connection and then a wireless router, which is the base station device that will wirelessly send the signals to your computer. You need to make sure that your computer has support built in for wireless networking. Should it not have this, you will need to get a wireless network adapter.
The next step to setup wireless network is to unplug your DSL modem in order to turn it off, but it will still be connected to the Internet. After doing this, connect your router to the modem.
Now you are ready to configure your wireless router, which is not connected wirelessly to your computer. To begin with, temporarily connect your computer to an open network port on your router with the cable that you received with the router. Open Internet Explorer and then enter the address. There will be instructions to help you with address and password.
The next three important things to do to configure the network are to choose your wireless network name (or SSID), which is unique to you. Secondly, you will then be given a password that will be needed by your router to generate keys. This will need to be long and unique (you don't have to memorize it). Thirdly, you will require an administrative password which will permit you to change the router settings, if in the future you should need to.
Now for the exciting moment because you are ready to connect your computers! If your computer doesn't have wireless network support built in, this is where you would setup your network adapter. Follow the instructions on-screen to do this. Next, your computer will confirm the wireless connection.
Now that you have followed these straight forward steps to setup wireless network, make sure you consult the instruction manual for your router, then you are all set to go, to use your wireless network and enjoy remote internet connection from anywhere in your home.
